Do people own their own history??

To me, history is something that does not have measurements that makes sense to me.  Can you put a value on history??  If I had to answer the question “Do indigenous people have the right to control their own history and what is written about them?” I would have to say this:
I feel that people own the right to their own history, cultural knowledge, and creations.  They should be able to write it and we should trust them to write what is true.  To me this would be more accurate than having someone come in and do it. They should share this knowledge though with everyone and not just their own culture, offering it as a piece of human history.  Your history is your own, but it is not exclusive and others should be able to interpret it as they please without being punished for using someone’s own history.
Therefore, they should have the right to their own history when it comes to writing it, but not when it comes to interpreting it from an anthropological aspect, such as why they are that way. They should not have rights in the way of people being able to pay them to write their history but they should be the ones who write it.
if that makes sense.
what do you think? internet world?
